1. Post Weld Heat Treatment
Any type of heat treatment carried out immediately or shortly after welding.
2. Preheating
This is usually a medium temperature heating process applied to metals before some other thermal or mechanical treatment is applied, usually before or during welding
3. Normalizing
This is a heat treatment process, which is carried out to improve the grain structure of a material following welding or cold working. When carried out after welding the course grain structure is improved by
grain growth giving reduced brittle hardness and improving tensile strength and impact value.
4. Quench Hardening
Heating a metal up to a high temperature and then rapidly cooling in still air, water or suitable oil, which results in making the metal hard.
5. Tempering
This is a heat treatment, which follows a quenching hardening heat treatment. Tempering will increase the toughness of the hardened metal.
